La Braja Barbera d’Asti 2006, Castello di Gabiano

Appearance: Strong ruby core with a bright cherry rim. Clean and crystal clear with no sediments found.

Nose: Candied kirsch cherries and perfumed with very ripe red fruits. A touch of honey aroma too

Palate: High acidity with a medium finish on the palate. Strong flavors of dark cherries and very ripe blackberries.

Comments: Paired beautifully with some steamed chicken (dosed with some sweet starchy soy gravy), sweet and sour pork (infused with deep fried curry leaves) and some steamed rice – took me by surprise really as I wasn’t expecting too much. Turned out to be an excellent drink and it goes to show some italian reds can do well with chinese cuisine, especially a slightly “sweetish” one like this.
