Chateau Suduiraut 1988, Sauternes, France

Chateau Suduiraut 1988
Another last bottle in my collection. Still fresh, vibrant and bursting with acidity after 22 years. All the flavours that you could possibly ask for from a good Sauternes producer were all there – both nose and palate. What’s more amazing is that five days after it was opened, the wine still held its fort! Pretty darn good for a mold-infected wine (in a good way) 🙂

  1. Morning MT,
I organized a tasting two weeks ago in Suzhou, i was struggling at that time to decide whether i should open Suduiraut 88 or D’Yquem 2001. In the end i made a grave mistake by asking for advice from my wine buddies. Of course in the end D’Yquem was served. 🙂

But i am glad to learn from you that Suduiraut 88 is still doing well.

  2. I’m sure the d’Yquem was delicious. Probably a little too young still. 88 is a good vintage for Sauternes, and you’ll be amazed how chemically stable they are even after they are opened. But wines like these need great company, and people who can and will appreciate them for what they are 🙂

  3. You are right, a bit young though we still able to enjoy the never ending finishing. I have decided to open my next bottle in 5 years time if i am still alive LOL.

So far i only tried Suduiraut once, the 96, really nice. Judging from what yo said, i think it is the sauterne that worth paying attention to. Cant wait to open my 88 🙂
