Very dark ruby red with a clear meniscus. Prominent vanilla, oak and ripe black cherries on the nose, mingled with strong notes of tobacco and sandalwood. The wood influence is strong on the palate (cedar, vanilla), ripe fresh mission figs, candied cranberries and minerally. Tannins are quite smooth but powerful. I love the lingering finish on this one. The wine showed what a hot vintage it was then, but this is well-made and not overly extracted while maintaining fruit purity. Should age well within the decade. Now I wonder if 6 bottles would be enough. Drank this from a half-bottle after having several glasses too many at Alain et Anna’s. I’d say a wine for meditation with friends who appreciate it.
