Had this with Al and Lz after the beautiful Barolo and the difference was immediately recognized on first pour. Plenty of oak aromas, sweet black berries and pronounced 羚羊水 (a fragrant chinese tonic) – the touch of herbaceousness is there but not quite the green bell peppers (methoxypyrazine compounds) that is usually found in Ornellaia. Similar profile on the palate. Smooth tannins and good acidity though a little short on the finish. I was pretty glad that Lz brought along some camembert and crackers as it would have been hard to finish the bottle without any food.
