Domaine du Vieux Lazaret, Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2007

Appearance: Dark purple-ruby core with a bright cherry rim.

Nose: This CdP exhibited aromas of ripe red cherries, ripe strawberries and subtle hints of cinnamon and spices.

Palate: Pleasant flavours of ripe cherries and redcurrants, balanced by notes of tangy cranberries. Burning sensation down the throat (a check showed 14.5% a.b.v.) with a medium finish on the palate. Tannins were not particularly strong but blended very well with the fruit profile to give sufficient body for the mildly spicy sausage spaghetti over dinner.

Comments: Bought this at Le Benaton. Very pleasant. Drink now (70% Grenache, 15% Syrah and the rest are made of a blend of different varieties allowed in CdP – mostly Mouvedre).
