Brilliant light copper-salmon pink. Strong scents of fresh tangerines, cantaloupes and just a slight whiff of tomato leaves. Dry, ripe blood oranges, mineral tones, tart strawberries. Med to med+ acidity and length. Poised and structured. Extremely pleasant, and very, very versatile – with or without food. More than just a picnic quaffer, and rightly so for the price! Don’t touch this if you’re looking for a fruit bomb 🙂
Deep inky purple core with a magenta rim. Cured meat, blood sausage, dried herbs and mocha aromas; tart berry nose. Tart blackberries, tart dark cherries, white pepper, mandarin peel and even a little charcoal on the palate. Strong, muscular tannin structure; med+ to long finish; med+ acidity. Just as tight as Les Tourtine but quite promising (my favourite of the trio), hardly single dimensional. Needs plenty of time. Drunk too soon (again!).
Dark opaque purple core with a deep dark ruby rim. Some green, unripe fruit notes seemed to dominate the nose at this juncture. But that layer of sweet vanilla, kirsch cherries and sweet spices was quite assertive in the background. Notes of ripe Envy apples on the nose too. Pronounced ripe ENVY apples, dried wolfberries and mocha on the palate, strong tannin structure but not harsh. Robust and powerful. Med acidity; med finish. Needs time for complexities to evolve. No-go at the moment. Spicy notes on nose and palate. Single dimensional at this juncture.
