Te Kairanga Runholder Pinot Noir 2007, Martinborough, New Zealand

Te Kairanga Runholder Pinot Noir 2007

Ruby-garnet core, cherry-rim with a tinge of orange hue. Earthy, dark ripe black fruits (think blackberries and blackcurrant) on the nose, layered with liquorice, tobacco, vanilla and dried mandarin peel. Similar flavours on the palate with the addition of mocha and dark chocolate. Silky smooth texture with a spicy medium plus finish. Bright acidity here with good structure. Absolutely excellent for the price point!

Drank this on the second night and the wine had mellowed somewhat, showing a more dried mandarin peel and dried asian hawthorn flavours. A little VA was detected initially but it went away. A little less exciting than the previous night.
