lunch at Manoella

UntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledlovingly prepared by the team at Wine & Soul after my wine tasting tour at Niepoort. There was a 2004 Guru, 2010 Character, 2010 Manoella, 2010 Quinta da Manoella VV and a 2009 Pintas. Apart from the 2004 Guru, I am, by now, fairly familiar with the offerings from this winery having spent a vintage there. The property is really beautiful and if you are ever in the Douro Valley, this is worth a visit with the winemaker (and owner).

UntitledUntitledUntitledwhich is mostly a soup, meat with potatoes, and rice. I think I must have gained a couple of kilos in just a few days. So I don’t know how my co-workers can eat so much more and still remain slim. To be fair, they are also 10-15 years younger! I also noticed they hardly eat any vegetables during meal times. I have not seen a single leafy veg for awhile now. The closest thing to a vege is probably the locally produced tomatoes which I can pick in the garden just below my dorm.

guru white 2012guru 2012I still can’t quite get over the fact that I actually helped processed some of the Guru 2012 in Douro. Those are some of the Viosinho, Rabigato, Codega and Gouveio (about 2T) that went through the small press yesterday. It was definitely muito interessante to see how different they run things here compared to the more recent NZ vintage that I did. I guess once harvest hits its peak, there should be even more intriguing things to watch. Sad to say that internet connection here is sketchy but better this than nothing at all right? I actually like how quiet it can become at night, much quieter than NZ.
