Bosconia 1991 and da Luca

R. López de Heredia Rioja Gran Reserva Viña Bosconia 1991

This is an amazing tempranillo made in the burgundian style. Pale brick-red core with an orange-brownish rim, the wine exhibited pronounced orange peel, redcurrants, cranberries aromas mingled with a touch of secondary nose which I expect to be even more so given sufficient cellaring time. Explosively perfumy like a Corton but not quite so. On the palate, it’s tart with bright, medium acidity that’s layered with red fruit flavours and spices. A nice medium to medium plus length finish provided a nice balance. Still a baby I must say. I can’t wait to see how this would evolve in the next 10 years.

Had this with 2 pizzas from da Luca at Goldhill Plaza and some baby capsicums. The capricciosa was a better pairing. If you’re interested to read about the technical details of the wine, click here.
